The Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI) was founded by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as a way to acknowledge companies that "green" their products and services.〔(【引用サイトリンク】publisher=CSA Illumina )〕 Detergents that are considered safer are detergents without alkyiphenol ethoxylates, more commonly known as NPEs, which is toxic to aquatic life.〔〔(【引用サイトリンク】publisher=ISSA )〕 These safer surfactants breakdown quickly into non-polluting compounds so they do not affect aquatic life.〔〔 Companies that produce, use, or distribute safer surfactants can qualify for the stewardship.〔〔 The initiative is administrated by EPA employee David Difiore. ==Champion Status== The EPA currently recognizes the following companies as having achieved Champion Status, the SDSI initiative's highest award: Auto-Chlor System Barricade Fire Gel Bissell Homecare Inc.
